Time to play…
… this time in another way from what I normally do with my models.
As you may have noticed I’m addicted to iPhoneography and Instagram, Hipstamatic and Snapseed in particular. I shoot on a daily basis with my iPhone. Last December I completed a 365 project.
My own cats are subjects that are present in my photostream often. I love capturing the daily life of my cats with my phone. All of my cats have got a hashtag. I love playing with filters in apps like Snapseed and Instagram. You can add a special feel to you shots. I feel that square images are often so much more powerful than landscape or portrait style.
My last blogpost was about the beautiful Smilla and Grace. Before the photo shoot Smilla’s owner had told me that she had had two cats other cats, Mora and Knut. She asked me if I could shoot some photos of Smilla and Mijntje in a way that these shots would make a nice series with her own photos of Mora and Knut.
You can say that my style of photography is quite unique. So as an artist, shooting photos in a style different than my own wouldn’t be something that I would consider. My success lies in my own style. I also feel that it is almost impossible to see and shoot like another person does. So, I offered my client another solution: JofabiPhoneography.
In 2012 I got to play with photos of a client for the first time. Kirsten had got some photos of her cat Dali all shot with her phone. She asked me if I could help her out to get a good enough quality of those shots to print on canvas. Immediately I thought about playing with her photos on my iPhone. For Kirsten I created a series of six photos with four different filters. The series wasn’t large enough for canvas, but the square 20x20cm photo prints were gorgeous.
Smilla’s owner got excited by my offer. I choose four kitten photo’s from Smilla, Mijntje, Mora and Knut and got creative. I used three Instagram filters, Earlybird, Amaro and Inkwell. Here is the result with the Instagram filter Amaro. Also this time the result has turned out special.

Tip: when using your phone to shoot, shoot with the native camera. This will save your photos in the highest possible resolution. Some apps save your photos in a smaller size when shooting. Especially when you want to edit your photos in more than one app, crop your photo or, even better, get some prints it is wise to start of with a large size photo.
